Our last race of the season is tomorrow. The trailer is fixed and ready to go. The trucks are all tuned and ready to go.
Let’s ROCK!
Well, it rained ALL DAY and we couldn’t get the trailer fixed. The weather is supposed to clear up in the next couple of days.
We did pick up a new cab for Phill’s Blazer. This is something we have been wanting to do for a while, change the Blazer into a pickup truck.
While we were on the way to get the axle yesterday we saw a cab, which is all we really need, sitting in a yard so on the way back we stopped and asked about it. The lady that answered the door turned out to be a teacher for Phill’s kids! Weird huh?
Anyway, we struck a deal and went back this morning to pick up the pickup
Here are a couple of pics for you:
After the last race Phill noticed that one of the trailer wheels was leaning against the trailer and rubbing. Once we got under the trailer he found that the axle tube itself was cracked and split and starting to bend. We were lucky it didn’t break while going down the road!
We went yesterday to get a new axle and this one is beefier than the old one. We are going to work on getting it installed today and be ready for next weekends race.
Here is a picture of the bad axle:
well the oil pump was the problem with not having any oil pressure. With the new oil pump in the truck is at about 70 psi. Just need to get the timing set and the truck should be good to go for the last race at Peat Monster. still have to look at the trailor to see why the tire is leaning.
I have a 1976 Ford F-100 pickup that was given to me a couple of years ago. I put it back together and made a wooden bed for it. that worked for a couple of years but I really wanted a ‘real’ bed for it so this summer I have been working on one. As part of that process I needed to paint the bed and I didn’t really like the current blue color of the truck so I started looking around and found a color called Concord Grape. I was skeptical at first but after I sprayed a couple of coats I really like it. Well once I painted the bed I started on the rest of the body. I do not have any pics of the bed with me right now but I do have some of the cab, so far.
Enjoy.

So we dropped the oil pan and found nothing in there. We pulled the oil pump and while it seems a little sloppy it does not appear to be broken but I am going to replace it anyway.
We pulled the distributor out and it looked fine as did the rocker arms.
So, I am going with the hard landing caused the distributor to move and take the engine out of time.
We should have it all back together this weekend.

We raced this past Saturday (September 3rd) and it started pouring down rain at about Noon and never stopped raining all day. Now some of you will say something like “you are racing in mud how can rain be bad?”
Well, when it is raining so hard that you can’t see the track, that’s bad. Thunder, lightning and heavy rain isn’t fun for anyone.
Once the heavy stuff stopped, the whole place was flooded. What a mess. You couldn’t even walk around without going through a mud hole!
The pit was soupier than usual as well. Very slippery stuff.
As for our trucks, Tim did okay but I don’t think he could get any traction.
Phill, was getting some good traction and looked like he was having a good run until he hit a hole at about 145 feet and bounced up, then crashed down and the engine died. We could not get it restarted
and he had zero oil pressure. Oops.
We are working on getting the engine torn apart to see what we broke. I am hoping it is just an oil pump. Maybe the pickup tube came off?
Stay tuned.
